Google Revisits Epic Proposal by GPS Artist ‘Yassan’

proposal
Yasushi “Yassan” Takahashi, the GPS artist who famously zigzagged 4,500 miles across Japan in 2010 to spell out a marriage proposal for his girlfriend, is back in the news — thanks to Google. When the Tokyo resident completed his six-month journey from the island of Hokkaido to the shores of Kagoshima, he uploaded his route to Google Earth. The result were the words “Marry Me” in all capital letters punctuated by a heart. The rendering looked like a global-scale version of an Etch-a-Sketch. Leaving his girlfriend and job behind, the artist embarked on the trip via foot, bicycle, car and ferry, often fighting bad weather and spending nights in the back of his vehicle. In the end, the endeavor was ... [Read More]

Their goal is for guests to leave the celebration saying, “That was so them.” The Knot reports that bridal couples are pulling out all the stops to make sure their loved ones have an absolute blast: The average couple hosts 136 guests, and the average spent per guest is $258. Besides the expected food, drink and music, 38% of couples hire above-and-beyond reception entertainment. The Knot’s survey respondents listed live tattoo artists, cigar-rolling stations and craft margarita ... [Read More]

Pantone Color of the Year 2019

color of the year
"Living Coral,” a pinkish-orange hue that embraces us with warmth and embodies our desire for playful expression, has been named Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year. Among the gemstones exhibiting Pantone’s vibrant, yet mellow, seaborne color are spinel, morganite, padparadscha sapphire and precious coral. Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, said the Color Institute selected Living Coral to counter the effects of digital technology and social media that are “increasingly embedding into daily life.” “We are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy,” she noted. “Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages ... Welcome to ‘Engagement Season’

engagement
Welcome to “engagement season,” the magical time between Thanksgiving Day and Valentine’s Day when nearly 40% of all marriage proposals take place. According to WeddingWire’s 2018 Newlywed Report, Christmas Day is the most popular day of the year to pop the question, followed by Valentine’s Day, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve. Interestingly, the WeddingWire survey of 18,000 U.S. newlyweds married in 2017 reveals a dramatic spike in proposals during the month of December. Throughout the rest of the year, the distribution of proposals during each month ranges from 7% to 9%. But, in December, that number rises to 16%. Experts believe that the winter engagement phenomenon is ... [Read More]

Diamonds Galore on Latest $1 Million Dream Angels Fantasy Bra

diamonds
It took the designers and artisans at Atelier Swarovski a total of 930 hours to complete the bejeweled 2018 Dream Angels Fantasy Bra, an impressive work that will be worn by supermodel Elsa Hosk at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The $1 million bra and body chain are adorned with 2,100 diamonds weighing a total of 71 carats. The gems are set in sterling silver. “The Fantasy Bra is blinding,” the Swedish model told Elle.com. “It’s like, ‘Whoa.’ [There are] 2,000 diamonds on it. That’s a little crazy.” Hosk was working at a photo shoot recently when a special package from Victoria’s Secret arrived on the set. Hosk guessed it was a birthday cake because her birthday was coming up. When ... [Read More]

Halloween Proposal Inspiration

halloween proposal
Justine Aichelberger and Jesse Seads met at a Halloween party seven years ago, so when the young man was plotting a surprise marriage proposal recently, he was determined to include pumpkins — many pumpkins — in his plan. Seads had arranged for his girlfriend to “win” an aerial tour for two over Vancouver Island. Once airborne, Aichelberger could have hardly predicted that the flight would take her and her boyfriend directly over Gobind Farms, where 640 pumpkins neatly spelled out the question “Justine – Will You Marry Me?” The romantic groom-to-be pulled out a diamond engagement ring when the pumpkin message came into view. A stunned Aichelberger said, “Yes,” and the couple celebrated their ... [Read More]

Ready to Pop the Question?

pop the question
New York City’s Central Park — the verdant oasis of majestic trees, rolling lawns and bass-stocked ponds just steps away from the bustling metropolis — has been named by Celebrity Cruises as the most popular place in the world to pop the question. The company analyzed more than one million Instagram posts from the past 12 months with the hashtags #shesaidyes, #hesaidyes, #isaidyes and #proposal to pinpoint the specific places where the most marriage proposals took place. Interestingly, back in March of this year, the wedding-planning website Hitched.co.uk used a similar methodology — analyzing hashtags such as #bridetobe and #engaged — to define the most popular landmarks associated with ... Diamond “Love” at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Event

diamond
A 5-carat fancy vivid blue diamond named “Ai” — the Chinese word for love — will be flirting with a world record when it hits the auction block at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite event in Hong Kong on October 3. The auction house is estimating that the richly colored step-cut gem will sell in the range of $12.4 million to $15.2 million, potentially putting the per-carat price at $3 million or more. If The Ai Diamond outperforms Sotheby’s estimate, it will be ascending into the rarefied air occupied by two of the most famous blue diamonds of all time. Back in May of 2017, the “Oppenheimer Blue” — a 14.62-carat fancy vivid blue diamond — fetched an astounding $57.5 million at Christie’s ... [Read More]

Proposal Captured Live at the Emmys

proposal
To director Glenn Weiss, the simple gold wedding band his dad placed on his mom’s finger 67 years ago is “more valuable than The Hope Diamond” — a fact that grew ever more significant when the Emmy winner's proposal to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen was captured live on stage while accepting his award for “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special.”                   Weiss earned his Primetime Emmy for directing the Oscars ceremony on ABC, but what should have been a joyful speech started off as a melancholy acknowledgement of his mom’s passing only two weeks ago. “Part of my heart is broken,” he said. “I don’t think it will ...
