Spring has arrived! It’s that time of year where we get our boost of energy to clean out our drawers, garages, rooms, closets… you get the idea. Time to freshen things up! Ask yourself, when was the last time you’ve had a ring cleaning or service done for your jewelry pieces? Six months, a year, longer, or cannot remember? You’re probably due for a ring cleaning or spa service then. Our spa service is a total ring cleaning and treatment, like getting an oil change on a car, it’s regular maintenance. What’s the difference between a ring cleaning “while you wait” and the spa service? Read below to find out.

The “While You Wait” Ring Cleaning

Getting your ring cleaned while you wait is a fast and convenient service that’s offered. Maybe you’ve come to our store to browse our newest collections or to pick up a watch, whatever the case may be, here is what we would do if you asked us to clean your ring while you wait.

First, we will check your setting making sure that everything is structurally sound. Next, we will gently cleanse to get any surface impurities off the ring. After that, we apply pressurized steam to get any remaining residual impurities such as dirt, lotion, or anything else your ring may pick up. This is a great service to take advantage of if you are on a time crunch. The service usually takes about 10-15 minutes. We recommend you do this at least every six months to keep your ring clean and shiny throughout the year.

To summarize, we will:

  • Check the setting for any structural issues
  • Gently cleanse surface impurities off
  • Apply pressurized steam to remove any remaining impurities
  • Hand polish silver pieces
  • 10-15 minutes

How often: Every six months

Our Spa Service Cleaning

This is the service I mentioned above that is like an oil change. Vehicles require an oil change to run smoothly and increase their life longevity. Just like vehicles, rings and other jewelry require maintenance as well. Our spa service takes longer and is more comprehensive than the “while you wait ” cleaning. Plus, you must leave the ring or pieces with us for about 7-10 days. First, just like above, we will check the structure of the ring and the stones. Next, we will tighten prongs and other elements of the ring making sure that the structure is strengthened, and no stones are coming loose. Again, we will apply pressurized steam to get any remaining impurities off the ring or piece. After the ring or piece is sufficiently clean, we will then add the appropriate finish and polish. Now for white gold lovers and owners, you will notice when you are due for cleaning because if you look closely there will be a yellow cast over the ring or piece. With white gold, we add an extra step to do rhodium plating restoring the surface of the ring or piece, giving it a nice clean and almost resembling a chrome finish. Overall, making your ring or piece nearly brand new again. We recommend you at least do this once a year, again to increase the longevity of your ring or pieces.

To summarize, we will:

  • Check the setting & stones for any structural issues
  • Tighten the prongs & other elements
  • Gently cleanse surface impurities
  • Apply pressurized steam to remove any remaining impurities
  • Apply the appropriate finish & machine polish – if needed replate
  • For white gold, rhodium plating
  • 7 – 10 days

How often: Once a year

Altogether, taking care of your rings and jewelry to increase their longevity requires a little maintenance. The next time you are browsing, or in the area, feel free to ask and see when your ring or jewelry is due for a cleaning. Remember,  the “while you wait” cleaning is about 10-15 minutes, and our spa service requires you to leave the ring or pieces with us for about 7-10 days. As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our services. Want to learn more about jewelry? Visit our jewelry education page here.
